Weather 3 Part Cards

Using Montessori 3 part cards, also known as nomenclature cards , is a proven way of introducing new vocabulary to your child on a variety of topics. Whether it’s science, biology or geography in our case. These cards serve as expansive tools for increasing comprehension and memory retention.

These cards are usually laminated however, at present we do not own a laminator so ours were not. Moreover my 3.5 year old handles paper, crafts, books etc carefully so I do not feel the need to invest in one. However, if you have younger kids, I would definitely recommend getting one.

Nomenclature or 3 part cards, as the name suggests, consists of 3 cards.

  • The control card has the object , or part of the object with a name on it.
  • The object card has only the picture on it.
  • The label card has just the name on it.

The idea is to start a conversation with the child introducing 4/5 cards at a time for younger kids. You can ask the kids to match the object and label cards with the control cards even if the child is not reading age yet to encourage matching of similar words with the power of reinforcement and recognition.
